To become a Certified APT™-Therapist, you will have to complete a Certified APT™-Core Training in London, Stockholm or Boston and pass an exam (Certified APT™-Therapist Criteria). Please email us for more information.
Certified APT™-Therapist
Minimal requirements to become a Certified APT™-Therapist:
- You must be a licensed/registered professional in good standing, working in the (mental) health sector.
- You must have completed a Certified APT™-Core Group Training program.
- You must have acquired general knowledge and skills of Affect Phobia Therapy as described in Treating Affect Phobia: A Manual for Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (McCullough et al, 2003)
- You must demonstrate an effective and ethical therapeutic stance and proficiency in the assessment and treatment of ‘affect phobias.’
- You must demonstrate the capacity to engage in healthy relational skills, internal emotional awareness & self-assessment.
- You must demonstrate the capacity to seek consultation when necessary, receive feedback from peers and supervisors and follow through on personal and professional goals.
- You must create a portfolio of your work that includes audio-visual segments.
- You must successfully pass the APT-Examination.

Certified APT™-Trainer
Minimal requirements to become a Certified APT™-Trainer:
- You must be a licensed/registered professional, working in the (mental) health sector.
- You must have accomplished an accredited APT-Core Group Training program.
- You must have had audiovisual supervision of at least 9 patients and must have given account to the supervisor(s) of the initial assessment, the treatment plan, goals, therapy process, and end results of these 9 patients.
- You must have worked minimally 10 hours per week with patient contacts during at least 2 years prior to request for accreditation.
- You must have written an article or must have given an audiovisual presentation at a national or international symposium, workshop, course, or conference.
- You must have a recommendation of at least one supervisor.

Certified APT™-Supervisor
To become a Certified APT™-Supervisor
- You must be a licensed/registered professional, working in the (mental) health sector.
- You must have accomplished an accredited APT-Core Group Training program.
- You must have had audiovisual supervision of at least 9 patients and must have given account to the supervisor(s) of the initial assessment, the treatment plan, goals, therapy process, end results of these 9 patients.
- You must have worked minimally 10 hours per week with patient contacts during at least 2 years prior to request for accreditation.
- You must have written an article or must have given an audiovisual presentation at a national or international symposium/workshop/course/conference.
- You must have a recommendation of at least one supervisor.
Additional requirements:
- You must fulfil the criteria for Certified APT-Trainer.
- You must have assisted in a Core Group under guidance of a Certified APT-Supervisor (duration 3 years, 4 times a year, 2 or 3 consecutive days).
- You must have given supervision to members of an APT-Core Training Group. These supervisions must be audiovisually recorded and must have been supervised by a Certified APT-Supervisor.
- 2 and 3 may have taken place in the same period (duration 3 years, 4 times a year, 2 or 3 consecutive days).
