Certified APT™- Certification

To become a Certified APT™-Therapist, you will have to complete a Certified APT™-Core Training in London, Stockholm or Boston and pass an exam (Certified APT™-Therapist Criteria). Please email us for more information.

Certified APT™-Therapist

Minimal requirements to become a Certified APT™-Therapist:

  1. You must be a licensed/registered professional in good standing, working in the (mental) health sector.
  2. You must have completed a Certified APT™-Core Group Training program.
  3. You must have acquired general knowledge and skills of Affect Phobia Therapy as described in Treating Affect Phobia: A Manual for Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (McCullough et al, 2003)
  4. You must demonstrate an effective and ethical therapeutic stance and proficiency in the assessment and treatment of ‘affect phobias.’
  5. You must demonstrate the capacity to engage in healthy relational skills, internal emotional awareness & self-assessment.
  6. You must demonstrate the capacity to seek consultation when necessary, receive feedback from peers and supervisors and follow through on personal and professional goals. 
  7. You must create a portfolio of your work that includes audio-visual segments.
  8. You must successfully pass the APT-Examination.

Certified APT™-Trainer

Minimal requirements to become a Certified APT™-Trainer:

  1. You must be a licensed/registered professional, working in the (mental) health sector.
  2. You must have accomplished an accredited APT-Core Group Training program.
  3. You must have had audiovisual supervision of at least 9 patients and must have given account to the supervisor(s) of the initial assessment, the treatment plan, goals, therapy process, and end results of these 9 patients.
  4. You must have worked minimally 10 hours per week with patient contacts during at least 2 years prior to request for accreditation.
  5. You must have written an article or must have given an audiovisual presentation at a national or international symposium, workshop, course, or conference.
  6. You must have a recommendation of at least one supervisor.

Certified APT™-Supervisor

To become a Certified APT™-Supervisor

  1. You must be a licensed/registered professional, working in the (mental) health sector.
  2. You must have accomplished an accredited APT-Core Group Training program.
  3. You must have had audiovisual supervision of at least 9 patients and must have given account to the supervisor(s) of the initial assessment, the treatment plan, goals, therapy process, end results of these 9 patients.
  4. You must have worked minimally 10 hours per week with patient contacts during at least 2 years prior to request for accreditation.
  5. You must have written an article or must have given an audiovisual presentation at a national or international symposium/workshop/course/conference.
  6. You must have a recommendation of at least one supervisor.

Additional requirements:

  1. You must fulfil the criteria for Certified APT-Trainer.
  2. You must have assisted in a Core Group under guidance of a Certified APT-Supervisor (duration 3 years, 4 times a year, 2 or 3 consecutive days).
  3. You must have given supervision to members of an APT-Core Training Group. These supervisions must be audiovisually recorded and must have been supervised by a Certified APT-Supervisor.
  4. 2 and 3 may have taken place in the same period (duration 3 years, 4 times a year, 2 or 3 consecutive days).
